Many of our patients require outpatient testing. These instructions are intended to assist you with this process and help answer the many questions we are often asked. Feel free to contact us should you have any additional questions or concerns which are not addressed below.
OUT PATIENT REGISTRATION
Pre-registration is required for all tests and procedures done at any of the local hospitals. Please phone the appropriate hospital to register for your procedure:
- Our Lady of Lourdes: (607) 584-5515
- United Health Services: (607) 762-2494 (Wilson Regional Medical Center or Binghamton General Hospital)
ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND
- The day before your ultrasound, please follow a low fat diet.
- You should not eat or drink after midnight the night before your scheduled procedure.
BONE SCAN
- There is no preparation required for this evaluation.
- Please note there is a three (3) hour delay from the time you receive your injection of contrast for the study until the scan is actually done. You may leave the hospital following the injection and then return for the scan.
RENAL SCAN WITH LASIX
- Please do not consume caffeine or caffeine products the day of the exam.
- Be sure to drink plenty of water the day of the exam (6-8 glasses of water.)
- If you are on any type of diuretic (Lasix, hydrochlorothiazide, etc.) Do not take this 24 hours prior to testing. If you are unsure, please contact us for further assistance.
IVP
- At 3:00pm the day prior to your exam, please take a mild laxative. (Not milk of magnesia.)
- You should not eat or drink after midnight the night before your scheduled procedure.
KIDNEY ULTRASOUND
- On the day of your procedure, you should have nothing solid to eat 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- Please do not smoke or chew gum 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- One hour prior to your procedure please drink 24 ounces of water. Please try to retain this water and do not urinate prior to the procedure. A full bladder is required for this ultrasound.
CT ABDOMEN AND PELVIS WITHOUT CONTRAST
- You should have nothing to eat 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- You should have nothing to drink 2hours prior to your procedure.
CT ABDOMEN AND PELVIS WITH CONTRAST
- You should have nothing to eat 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- You should have nothing to drink 2hours prior to your procedure.
- Upon your arrival you will be required to drink a contrast solution that will take 1.5 hours to complete prior to the actual scan.
CT UROGRAM WITH IV CONTRAST
- You should have nothing to eat 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- You should have nothing to drink 2hours prior to your procedure.
CT SCAN CHEST
- You should have nothing to eat 4 hours prior to your procedure.
- You should have nothing to drink 2hours prior to your procedure.
